Our Nursery Routine

Our door opens at 8.50 and children are welcomed into the classroom by their teachers, then there is the choice of free play or dancing until the door closes at 9.05.

At 9.10 the children go off into their Key groups with their Key worker to do a 20 minute maths or phonics activity and after this we have adult led activities until snack and story time at 10am.

After Snack, we choose either indoor or go outside to do playground games, running, climbing and lots more until we are ready for lunch.

After lunch we have more excellent adult led activities, and free flow indoor and outdoor play until home time at at 3.10.

EyLog

We love to see how the children extend their learning out of the classroom and we ensure we find opportunities for the children to share in their successes.

Please make sure you are connected to the EY log to see up to date observations of your child by giving us your email and checking this for an activation email.

Please feel free to add observations of your child at home especially if they are learning something new which we would love to see in school. We take time to share observations from home as a show and tell opportunity.

Our Curriculum

The Foundation Stage has its own curriculum which emphasizes learning based on play and experiences. It is a broad, balanced and purposeful curriculum. The Foundation Stage is delivered through planned play activities to help ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential and experience the best possible start to their education.

The Seven Areas of Learning and Development:

Prime Areas

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Specific Areas

 Mathematics

 Literacy

 Understanding of the World

 Expressive Arts and Design

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Successful Personal, Social and Emotional Development is critical for very young children in all aspects of their lives and gives them the best opportunity for success in all other areas of learning. We believe that it is crucial that we provide the experiences and support to enable children to develop a positive sense of themselves.

Communication and Language

Communication and Language depend on learning and being competent in a number of key skills, together with having the confidence, opportunity, encouragement, support and disposition to use them. This area of learning includes communication, speaking and listening in different situations and for different purposes, and using past, present and future forms accurately.

Physical Development

Physical development in the Foundation Stage is about improving skills of co-ordination, control, manipulation and movement (Fine and Gross motor skills). Physical development has two other very important aspects. It helps children gain confidence in what they can do and enables them to feel the positive benefits of being healthy and active.

Literacy

Reading- Children look at a wide variety of books, songs, poems, rhymes and traditional stories. They learn how to retell stories in the correct sequence, handle books carefully, talk about characters, settings, notice patterns in speech and most importantly; listen carefully to adults reading.

Writing- Children explore mark making using a variety of tools and resources. They learn to ascribe meaning to the marks that they make and to talk about marks they see in the environment.

Mathematics

Mathematical development depends on becoming confident and competent in learning and using key skills. This area of learning includes counting, sorting, matching, seeking patterns, making connections, recognizing relationships and working with numbers, shapes, space and measures. Mathematical understanding should be developed through stories, songs, games and imaginative play, so that children can enjoy using and experimenting with numbers. This includes numbers with two digits.

Understanding of the World

In Understanding of the World children are developing the crucial knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world. It includes helping children develop the skills of observing, predicting, exploring, investigating, interpreting, discussing, decision making and using tools and materials appropriately

Expressive Arts and Design

Expressive Arts and Design is fundamental to successful learning. Being creative enables children to make connections between one area of learning and another and so extend their understanding. This area of learning includes art, music, dance, role-play and imaginative play.
