Nursery

Our Nursery is a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to grow, explore and develop a love of learning. As a Catholic school, our Nursery is rooted in the gospel values, helping every child feel valued and supported as part of our school family.

We believe each child is special and unique, created by God, and we aim to support their development with patience, encouragement and joy. Through strong relationships and thoughtful care, children are helped to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity

Meeting Our Nursery Team

Our Nursery is supported by a caring, experienced and dedicated team who are passionate about early childhood development. The Nursery Class Teacher is Mrs Galvin, who is supported by Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Philcock, along with our Nursery Apprentice, Miss Anderson, helping to ensure continuity, consistency and high‑quality care for all children.

We are also supported by Miss Gibson, Miss Woods and Mrs Wain, who make up the rest of the team, providing additional care, guidance and reassurance.

How Children Learn in Nursery

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, with play at the heart of all learning.

Children learn best when they feel happy, safe and engaged, and our Nursery provides a calm and stimulating environment where this can happen every day.

Learning is supported through a balance of:

  • Child‑initiated play, where children explore their own interests
  • Adult‑guided activities, carefully planned to support development

Alongside early skills in communication, physical development and early literacy and maths, we also place great importance on developing positive relationships, learning how to share, take turns and show kindness.

 Our Daily Routine

Our Nursery follows a gentle and consistent routine to help children feel secure and settled. While the structure of the day remains familiar, we also allow flexibility to respond to children’s needs and interests.

Each day includes:

  • Opportunities for independent and shared play
  • Access to indoor and outdoor learning
  • Snack and meal times that encourage independence and social skills
  • Stories, songs and group times that promote listening and reflection
  • Calm moments for rest and reassurance

 Our Learning Environment

Our Nursery environment is carefully planned to reflect care, calm and curiosity. Children are encouraged to explore and make choices independently, developing confidence and resilience in a supportive and loving setting.

Indoor and outdoor learning opportunities allow children to be active, creative and curious, while staff model kindness, patience and respect in everything they do.

Catholic Ethos and Catholic Social Teaching

Our Catholic ethos is at the heart of daily life in Nursery and is woven naturally into everything we do. We introduce children to faith through love, care, prayerful moments and positive role modelling, helping them to develop respect for themselves, others and the world around them.  Through age‑appropriate experiences, we reflect key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, including:

  • Dignity of the Human Person – recognising every child as special, unique and valued
  • Solidarity and the Common Good – learning to work together, share and care for one another
  • Family and Community – developing friendships and a strong sense of belonging
  • Dignity of Work – recognising that everyone’s role is important and valued through positive play and actions
  • Rights and Responsibilities – understanding that everyone has the right to be respected and responsibilities such as kindness and caring for others
  • Option for the Poor and Vulnerable – encouraging children to care for and include others, showing compassion to those who may need extra support
  • Stewardship: Care for God’s Creation – showing respect for our environment through play, exploration and everyday routines

These values are shared through everyday interactions, stories, celebrations and gentle discussions, supporting children to grow into caring, thoughtful members of the school community.

Supporting Every Child

In our Catholic school, we place children’s wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. Our staff team takes time to build strong, trusting relationships so children feel safe, understood and cared for.

We recognise that children develop in different ways and at different times. We are committed to inclusive practice and work closely with families and, where needed, other professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. By working together in partnership, we can best support children’s learning and development.

Regular communication helps us to share children’s achievements, interests and progress. Parents are always welcome to talk to staff, share information or ask questions, helping us to support each child as part of a wider school family.

Throughout the year, children enjoy a wide range of experiences inspired by their interests, the changing seasons and special celebrations within school life. These experiences help children feel a strong sense of belonging and joy in their learning.

Our Commitment

As a Catholic school, we are committed to providing a Nursery where children feel happy, safe, loved and respected. We aim to nurture each child’s growth academically, socially and emotionally, laying strong foundations for their future learning and life within our school community.
