Pupil-led Projects

Often, classes and groups of children are inspired to lead on their own fundraising or raising awareness projects within school which are linked to their current learning, or events in the news. This are linked to our learning on how to Build the Kingdom of God through the Catholic Social Teachings.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING PROJECT: As part of Year 4's Europe Geography topic, we have been thinking about our own vocation to help those in need in Europe, including refugees and migrants.
Mila S has been brave enough to share her story with us, telling us about her experience of leaving Kyiv, Ukraine to come to Wolstanton in 2022.
You could hear a pin drop in the classroom as she told her story!
Thank you, Mila, for sharing your story and well done to the rest of Year 4 for some very passionate follow-up reflective work.

RECYCLING: As a part of our Polar regions topic and Catholic Social Teaching Year 2 have made a video about recycling. Please take a look at how we can protect the Polar regions from climate change. Our pledge is to recycle different materials appropriately in school and at home. Parents and carers, please help us to do this! Thank you for watching from Year 2.

Star Hunt: In December 2023, our House Captains decided that they wanted to raise some further money for our whole school charity, Dougie Mac, by designing and setting up a star hunt around school. This has created a real buzz of competition and raised £50.40! Well done House Captains!

EASTER EGG APPEAL: In March 2023, Year 1 were learning all about the Alice Charity. The children decided that they would like to donate Easter Eggs for children who might not get one. As a school, we collected over 100 eggs! Thank you for your wonderful idea Year 1, and to all who donated!

EARTHQUAKE SUPPORT: In February 2023, Year 5 were saddened by the news of the devastating earthquakes affecting Turkey and Syria. They decided to sew some items, which they could sell, in order to raise money. They raised £190. The money has been donated to CAFOD, who are currently using donations to provide shelter, food, water and winter kits to survivors. Thank you to Year 3 and 4, who donated and bought the items. We have many very generous and thoughtful children in our school .

SEA SAVERS: In Spring 2023, a group of Year 4 children were concerned about plastic pollution in the oceans, and started to research how we could help. They planned, organised and led a 'Wear Something Blue' day and bake sale in school, raising £278.65 for the Marine Conservation Society. They were then visited by a Marine Biologist, Courtney French, who talked to them about the difference that their money would make and the work that is being done to protect our seas.

BABY BANK DONATIONS: In February 2023, Year 1 decided that they would like to help babies in the local community. They wrote to Stephanie from the Alice Charity and asked her to come and tell them more about the amazing things that Alice does to help families in our area. They also donated money and baby items to help out others. Thank you to our amazing families for your generosity in supporting this day. We raised a total of £38 and had some beautiful donations as well.

HELPING THE UKRAINE: A group of our amazing Year 5 pupils wanted to help the aid organisations supporting the huge number of refugees forced from their homes in the Ukraine.
They organised a stall, selling cakes, cookies and bracelets on Monday 21st for Years 3,4,5 & 6 and Wednesday for Reception, Years 1 & 2. I know we'll want to support these amazing girls who are all demonstrating the real spirit of St Wulstan's.
WEAR A HAT DAY: On Friday 25th March 2022, some Year 6 pupils chose to organise and held a special day to support the charity Brain Tumour Research. The day was a non-uniform day for everyone and pupils came into school wearing a hat. The group of pupils created their own marketing video for Facebook to spread the message!
There was also a chance to buy ‘Wear a Hat Day’ wrist bands and badges for 20p!
This charity is a charity very close to our hearts here at St Wulstan's, and the pupils wanted to do something to support all of the fantastic work that the scientists are doing.

Food Bank Appeal - June 2022: Our amazing Year 4s launched an appeal for the Newcastle Foodbank to help children and families over the Summer Holidays. This resulted in lots of donations to support local people over the Summer break, which were donated to The Alice Pantry. Well done girls!
