Celebrating our Faith

At St Wulstan's we are extremely proud of our Catholic faith, and we take every opportunity possible to celebrate this. Take a look below at some of the events that link to our faith that we have celebrated recently.

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2024

We celebrated Mary's birthday with class liturgies, celebrations and learning all about how importance she is to us as Catholics.

Mardi Gras 2024

Today, every year group has celebrated the Catholic Social Teaching principle of 'Participation' by celebrating Mardi Gras! We have prepared by Lent by learning and practising the customs celebrated at this annual festival - and had a lot of fun along the way!

Advent and Christmas 2023

Wow! We have had two EYFS performances, two Year 1 and 2 nativity performances in Church and a Key Stage 2 Carol Concert.

In the final week of term, each KS2 class led us and the other classes in a child-led Advent liturgy, which parents and families were invited to.  Well done everyone!

Staff Retreat October 2023

As part of one of our INSET days, the staff enjoyed a staff retreat, led by Kenelm Youth Trust. During the day, we celebrated Mass together, spent time reflecting on our vocations within Catholic education, and even had some time for team building activities!

Pentecost May 2023

Today we celebrated Pentecost in school with a whole school art theme day. Our 'Building the Kingdom of God' question which the children reflected on through art was, 'What does the promise of the Holy Spirit mean to you?'.

May Procession 2023

One Life Whole School Retreat May 2023

Mardi Gras February 2023

Today the whole school have celebrated the festival of Mardi Gras, which happens on Shrove Tuesday (next week). We have thought about this great festival and linked it to the Lenten customs of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We will be ready for Lent when we return to school after Half Term.

Bambinelli 2022

We had a very special day on 13th December celebrating the Catholic tradition of Bambinelli. We brought our Baby Jesus from our cribs to school and Fr Michael visited every classroom to bless each baby Jesus. Now, we all have a blessed Baby Jesus to take home.

May Procession- May 2022

We celebrated Mass in church, following which we processed to Father's garden, where we crowned Mary. This was a lovely celebration, and we were joined by many parents and parishioners.

Mardi Gras  - 1st March 2022

On 1st March, the whole school celebrated Mardi Gras. We made masks; put on performances and had a special lunch! What a great time we had learning all about this festival!

One Life Whole School Retreat Day - January 2022

We were extremely lucky to begin the Spring term with a whole school retreat day with Dan and Emily from One Life Music. We had a lovely day of prayer, reflection and singing to celebrate our faith!

We had a very special day on 10th December celebrating the Catholic tradition of Bambinelli. We brought our Baby Jesus from our cribs to school and Fr Michael visited every classroom to bless each baby Jesus. Now, we all have a blessed Baby Jesus to take home.

KS1 Christingle and KS2 Carol Concert 2021

This year children in Years 1 and 2 celebrated Christingle with a special service in church. KS2 led a Carol Concert in Church, telling the Christmas Story through carols and prayer. We were so glad to be able to share this special time with our families this year.

Remembrance Day 2021

Remembrance was a wonderful day of reflection and prayer at St Wulstan's. We all took part in special class liturgies; we celebrated Mass and we reflected on all of the people who have died for our country or for a cause that they believe in.

Combined School's Mass - October 2021

We attended the Combined School's Mass. Unfortunately, we were only allowed a very limited number of places, but we still have a wonderful time, and even managed to get a photograph with Bishop Stephen!

Harvest 2021

This Year we collected food parcels for the Alice Charity and Open Door.  Our families were extremely supportive and we are so grateful, as were the charities.  As part of our Harvest Celebration, we celebrated Mass as a whole school.

Mary's Birthday - September 2021

On Wednesday 8th September the school marked the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, the day we celebrate Mary's birthday.  The children offered prayers of thanks, sung “Happy Birthday” and as with all celebrations there were a few treats.  A focus of the coming term is looking at promoting the lives of the Saints throughout the school.

May Procession 2021

This year, we were able to resume celebrating the May Procession. Father Dominic involved every class, and one 'bubble' processed to the parish garden in order to crown Mary. We were joined by lots of parishioners too!

Bambinelli 2020

A beloved annual tradition at the Basilica in preparation for Christmas, the Blessing of the Bambinelli was first instituted by St. John Paul II. On the Third Sunday of Advent, the children of Rome are encouraged to bring the baby Jesus (Bambinelli) from each of their Nativity sets to St. Peter’s Square. Following the Sunday Angelus address, the Pope blesses the figurines.

We celebrated our own Bambinelli within school. Every class presented their baby Jesus to Father Dom, who blessed each one. We shared prayers and reflections on the significance of such a special birth.

Mardi Gras 2020

To help lead us in to Lent and help children understand the change, the whole school celebrated a special day themed around Mardi Gras.

A special celebration was organised, with decorations and carnival music in the dinner hall. There was a real party atmosphere and it was great to see the children dancing around to the music whilst waiting for their special lunch, which included pancakes and a range of toppings! Children made special masks in the colours of Mardi Gras, and wore these during the day. They also spent time in classrooms  learning about the festival and why we celebrate it. Children really enjoyed this special feast before their fast!

What a special and busy time it has been, firstly preparing ourselves to remember the birth of Jesus and then all of the celebrations that have taken place for Christmas. Events have included class-led liturgies; choir performances at the hospital, local care homes and hospices; school and family Masses; Christmas lunch, Carol Concerts in church for Key Stage 2 and Nativity performances for EYFS and KS1.
